Marathon Shopping

Well…it was a first in a long time at least!

Yesterday I went to a nearby shopping destination with my mom and some friends of the family. We had a freaking blast! I am now very tired. These are short, choppy sentences. I don’t like them. I digress. We left my house at 9:30 a.m. and didn’t return home until around 10:30 p.m. We went everywhere…to the mall (in loads of stores), Marshall’s, Ross, Kirkland’s and several other stores. We got lots of stuff too…nearly completed our Christmas shopping! Yay!!! Needless to say, my feet still hurt from all the excitement…and I think I am getting too old to truly enjoy an entire day of shopping. No, surely not!!! It must have been the Sanuk’s…yep! It was definitely the footwear of choice.

My Hometown Theatrical Debut

If you read ShoeShe, then you may remember that a few days ago I posted about desperation.

Number 5 on the list of “Ways to Meet Mr. Right” was to join community theatre.

I did it. I dove in head first!

I am in the cast of “Need a Little Christmas,” an original Christmas play that a group of area theatre junkies put together to perform at our local mall, nursing homes, hospitals, the library and a couple of restaurants/coffee houses.

While I am super-pumped, I feel like my book failed me. All the guys in this production are gay (which is fine, but which means that I won’t be meeting Mr. Right).

I swear this type of thin always happens to me! Why me?

Write or Wrong

I’m working on several articles for a magazine my office publishes, and I am a bit down to the wire. Is it wrong that I am somewhat abandoning AP Style to just crank out the articles quite quickly before my Friday deadline? I’m going to have someone edit my work on Friday afternoon, so I’ll still be able to tweak my work before I have to turn it in. Does that make a difference? Should I just bite the bullet and write in AP Stye now?

Early Start

The deadline is Friday. I have to finish several articles for a magazine I’m working on. Even with an early start, I have procrastinated to the point that I am stressing myself out wondering if I will finish or not. I have to finish, but I also have this perfectionist persona that doesn’t like to turn in shoddy work. So when I come close to finishing something that I don’t LOVE, I obsess over it to the point I nearly make myself sick. Then I miss deadlines…all in the name of perfection. Ugh! It’s such a vicious cycle!!! I need to trust my own abilities more…have a bit less self-doubt. I will work on this…until next time when I will undoubtedly push myself to procrastination. I think I thrive on the pressure it causes. Ask me about that pressure Thursday night.

My First-ish Methodist Altar Call

My church is having revival this week (well Sunday-Tuesday nights), and we have kids’ revival and grown-up revival going simultaneously. The adults have a REALLY cool minister who has preached all over the place (and is REALLY good) and REALLY good musical guests. The kids have a Christian ventriloquist/puppet master/comedian/dude. He’s cool enough, and he is really nice, but…well…I don’t think he’s Methodist. Not that I have a problem with folks who aren’t Methodist…but I think that if you’re going to have a United Methodist revival, then I think it should at least be built on United Methodist principles. Tonight, at the end of this guy’s sermonette and show with the kids, he did an altar call…complete with the sinner’s prayer (aloud…a first for me) and the whole “raise your hand if this is the first time you’ve asked Jesus into your heart” bit. See, that may work for other denominations, but we just don’t do it that way. It’s not that I have a problem with doing it that way, it’s just that I don’t think scaring a room full of kids (in the absence of their parents no less) is the way to go about ensuring salvation. I’m totally cool with a healthy amount of fear of God, but when fear is the only thing you can feel about God, then I think you’re missing out on a meaningful relationship with the Creator of the Universe.

I’ve officially started my Christmas shopping. Now if certain people would tell me what 3-year old boys liked, I’d be closing in on finished.

This week I’m attacking the office goodwill project – Christmas for a disabled family. I’m responsible for a purse (or 2) and a night out with mom for a 12 year-old girl. I was thinking a gift certificate to the movie theatre and a $25 gift card to a restaurant in town. Does anyone have any better ideas for the night out with mom. Maybe I should do a mani/pedi gift certificate, but then I’m not sure how disabled they are…what if they don’t have toes? I think the movie theatre is the safe bet. What do you think?

Sleeping Through the Pain

Tonight I’m taking a couple of new drugs for the first time ever. One is a pain pill (other things I’ve tried haven’t really worked – even the shot in the back of the head that I had yesterday…and the epidural I had about a month ago). The other drug says it is for either “sleep” or “chronic pain.” I’d say if the drug helps me sleep through the pain in my neck, head and shoulders, then I’ll be just fine. I’ll let you know how this drug cocktail works tomorrow. Good night!

Drive Time

Wow! So after two years of having not driven a 15-passenger van, I get to jump behind the wheel and drive 14 high school seniors back to their high schools in a rural part of the state. I don’t know how I feel about this yet. Please pray for me. Thanks.
